Although it was expected that the Conservatives would hold this seat for Haldens Ward on Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council the Liberal Democrats got a very good result. Haldens was an area which we had never worked before and the party had only four weeks notice of the election which had been called due to ill-health.
Despite having had to together a campaign from effectively a standing start the Liberal Democrats were rewarded with a 17.8% increase in their vote share. All other parties lost vote share, especially the Greens.
Haldens (Welwyn Hatfield) result:
CON : 507 34.1% ( - 1.3%)
LAB : 454 30.8% ( - 6.9%)
LDEM: 437 29.6% (+17.8%)
GRN : 81 5.5% ( - 9.5%)
CON Hold. Turnout 29.25%
This is a huge amount of credit to go the candidate Anthony Dennis and Welwyn and Hatfield team, who worked very hard in the short space of time to pull of this good result.
It is clear that the Lib Dems are doing well all over Hertfordshire!
