Three More By Election Results - And the Liberal Democrats Make Progress

Ballot BoxYesterday saw three by-elections, which were counted this morning, and the results showed further progress for the Liberal Democrats.

The first was in the Tooting Ward of the London Borough of Wandsworth, and not in particularly promising territory for the party. The result was an expected Labour hold, who had a good result with a 14% increase in vote share. The Conservarive vote share dropped by 3% and the Lib Dems came in third place but with a 4% improvement in their vote share.

Congratulations have to go to Carole Anne Morgan however who held the Ormesby Ward in Redcar & Cleveland UA with an amazing 75% vote share.

Likewise Liberal Democrat candidate, David Coates, has to be congratulated on a spectacular near miss in Catterick in Richmondshire District, from a standing start (the party did not field a candidate at the last election there). He stormed into second place with a 37% vote share and only 25 votes behind. The other remarkable feature of this election was almost total collapse of the Greens whose 12% vote share disappeared leaving them with just 3 votes!

Lib Dem 203 [37.2%; +37.2%]
