Announcement of Prizes!
Village life has always been valued for its closeness and sense of community and villagers come together in a variety of ways in different clubs, groups and associations. Principal among these are of course the Parish Church and the Village School.
But there are many smaller and less formal groups based on common interests or activities. They cut across differences in social circumstance and background and play an important part in strengthening the sense of identity, friendship and mutual support that makes villages such good places to be part of.
Aldbury is a case in point and everyone appreciates and helps maintain the local community that they all value.
Prominent in the village, supported by residents - and former residents - is the active and popular Aldbury Garden Club & Allotment Holders Society. This provides - as well as good fellowship, advice and encouragement - discounted supplies of seeds, equipment, bulbs and seed potatoes and also arranges two shows each year where the skill and flair of its members is on (competitive!) display.
The Spring Show was on Sunday, 20th March, and, despite a run of cold weather which delayed the tulips, proved a great success once again with flowers, floral displays and culinary triumphs to be viewed and admired.
Among these was Rosemarie Hollinghurst's second prize floral display on the set theme of "Purple Haze". Note the picture of a guitar in homage to Jimi Hendrix - but that was as far as she went in that direction. As Rosemarie is a law-abiding former health professional who strongly disapproves of gratuitous neurological self-harm, no spliff was included!
The Summer Show will be on Sunday September 4th featuring late summer flowers and produce from the kitchen garden.
Come along and enjoy the beauty of the blooms! Wonder in amazement at the Longest Bean, the Largest Leek and the rudest Odd-Shaped Vegetable!
If you are interested in joining in, then get in touch with Chairman Bill Page on 825584 or Club Secretary Chris Fido on 851421
Or if you would like an allotment contact Lucy Bancroft, the Parish Clerk on aldburyclerk@gmail.com
