In November 2015 - that's nearly 18 months ago - Transport for London (TfL) announced with a great fanfare that they had finally secured full funding for the Croxley Rail Link. They said that construction would start in 2016 and it would be completed by 2020. They claimed it would "create more than 6,500 jobs and boost the local economy by £2 billion".

Can You inspire and change the lives of local young people? Foster carers can provide a stable family support network for local children and young people when they cannot live with their own family. This is not something anyone can do - you need a spare room, loads of patience, tolerance and, most of all, a sense of humour. Every child is different so we need foster carers who are ready to embrace the challenge and success. If you can offer stability, and want to make a difference, please get in touch. There are generous allowances, round the clock access to advice and training. For more information call 0800 917 0925 or visit www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/fostering

Don't forget you can now dispose of your food waste in plastic bags,The process now removes the bags at the start, whether they are plastic or corn starch, so why not use bags you already have such as fruit, salad, bread or cereal bags BUT not plastic food pots, tubs or trays, they must not be placed in the food pod and black plastic sacks are not acceptable.……………………………………………………….

  • Aldbury Ditch 2
    Article: Mar 19, 2017

Aldbury near Tring is a pretty village set in a bowl of the Chiltern Hills. With Ashridge to the east, Ivinghoe Beacon to the north and Pitstone Hill to the west, drainage could always be a problem, though the porous chalk usually drains well. Down at the bottom of the village, of course, with clay and and silt outwash it is a different matter.

Southern Railway has caused disruption to the travel arrangements, not only of regular commuters, but also of anyone who has been planning to use their services at week ends. Many a family outing has been spoiled by an unexpected cancellation of trains with no alternative arrangements being offered.

Three Rivers District Council (TRDC)'s budget for next year was passed at the end of February. It protects front line services despite financial pressure from government cuts - the central Government Revenue Support Grant will reduce from £3m in 2013/14 years ago to £0.3m in 2017/18 and to zero by 2019/20 and the cost of providing for homeless families, a legal obligation, is forecast to increase from £0.0 in 2013/4 to £0.5 in 2917/18 and to £0.8m in 2019/20

  • Work on Icknield Way Crossing
    Article: Mar 8, 2017

It seems like a very long time but this project really took less than three years. This is quite fast for a highway project! On the other hand since the Icknield Way has been there a number of millennia perhaps it wasn't so fast after all. Perhaps people used to complain then of the danger in crossing it because of the all the migrating mammoths?

The most difficult bit was putting together a financial package to pay for it. Some money came from developer contributions, some from the "Safer Routes to School" budget and the rest from the Highway Locality Budget that is allocated to each county councillor.

It is an important element at the start of Footpath 41 which is to be upgraded to shared cycle and pedestrian use from Longbridge Cose to the town centre. This features as Scheme 22 in the Tring, Northchurch and Berkhamsted Urban Transport Plan put together by the County Council in 2013 and in which Tring Town Council was involved in some of the later stages.

I hope the crossing will be completed before the end of the month.

In the not too distant future development money will be channelled through Dacorum Borough Council (the Planning Authority) to Herts County Council (the Highways Authority) for improvements such as Scheme 22. I have already had a preliminary meeting with DBC officers to discuss the availability of funding for some of these county council schemes.

A future development arising from Scheme 22 might be a second crossing over Silk Mill Way, which Footpath 41 has to cross - funding permitting. We shall see.

  • Railfreight Wagon Sensors ()
    Article: Mar 8, 2017

You may not have heard of VTG Rail UK but this long-established company with headquarters in Brimingham is, with over 2,000 railfreight wagons, Britain's largest private rail wagon hire company.

VTG's wagons are suitable for 3 main types of business (a) the movement of materials in bulk (b) tank transport for chemicals e.g. lime or cement, fuels and bitumen (c) intermodal. This latter is essentially the transport of sea/road/rail containers and the VTG fleet includes a number of the new Ecofret flat bed wagons. Ecofret refers to a design standard which enables either 40 foot or 20 foot containers with a height of 9 foot 6 inches to be carried in combinations which maximise the number of containers per train.

  • Slip Road Pool
    Article: Mar 7, 2017

If you ask, you sometimes get - but this grid on a slip road to the A41 in Tring at the Wigginton roundabout was asked for by the local Hertfordshire county councillor, Nick Hollinghurst, 3 years ago.

It's been a long time coming but everyone will be pleased to see the end of that long deep puddle on the slip road that forms every time it rains.

Very many thanks to those who made a donation to Beat The Killer Cold.

TRDC (Three Rivers District Council) doubles the gifts. The money goes to helping the oldest, most vulnerable local residents with their winter fuel bills. None is spent on administration . Your generosity is much appreciated. ………………………………………………………
