Nick Hollinghurst, recently re-elected as the Lib Dem County Councillor for Tring & the Villages commented, "This progress, modest though it is, when taken together with the rest of the local county council results shows that the Liberal Democrats are well placed to make gains on Dacorum Borough Council in the elections in two years time."

"There are only three serious contenders in this constituency and in the absence of any effective opposition from Labour it is the Liberal Democrats who will be holding the Conservatives to account both locally and nationally."

Phil Williams, candidate in the Three Rivers by-election in Chorleywood South and Maple Cross on Thursday, 13th July, added, "It's important to keep up the momentum. This by-election is to replace Ann Shaw who so sadly died some months ago. It is an honour to be asked to stand in this by-election to represent Chorleywood and Maple Cross and, if the electors so decide, to follow in her footsteps.

There are regular elections in Three Rivers next year and the increase in the LIb Dem vote share in the recent difficult general election gives us encouragement for this year and next."

After the service I happened to drive past one of these, filled with happy, noisy, excited and lively children watched by caring parents.

Who could ask for a better memorial than that?

This is what her friends and colleagues colleagues on Three Rivers District Council wrote,

"We are still recovering from the sudden loss of Cllr Ann Shaw OBE.

Cllr Martin Trevett and Ann shared the Three Rivers District Council seat of Chorleywood South and Maple Cross.

Cllr Trevett said Ann was a special kind of person,

'I had known her for about 40 years and we had served together on Three Rivers for over 30 years, during which time she was leader of the Liberal Democrat group and Leader of the Council.

Ann was the sort of person that would not take no for an answer. If she could not get something done she would do it herself, always the champion of old, young and disadvantaged.

With Ann on your side you felt that nothing was impossible.

The world will be a poorer place now she is not with us.'"

From Jan 1st to May 11th, out of 9 possible attendances at council meetings and committees he did not attend even one!
And it wasn't something new, either. Since 8th June last year there were 18 possible attendances and he showed up just 3 times.

Now there can be many reasons for situations like this to arise - moving away or illness for example.

However, there was plenty of time to put it right. And it was the Conservatives' responsibility to sort it out and ensure that the people of Bovingdon, Flaunden and Chipperfield had a full complement of councillors to represent them.

The fact is that the Conservatives take you for granted. They just couldn't be bothered to do their duty until forced into it by the reality of the calendar and the risk of an automatic disqualification.

Mike says, "Don't reward Conservative complacency by supporting them again."
