Christopher Townsend at Mill End Community Centre Fun Day
Mill End held its second Celebration of the Community Day at 12.00 on Saturday 27 March 2010. The fun started when Councillor Richard Laval, the Liberal Democrat Chairman of the Council, formally opened proceedings. Later on, accompanied by Liberal Democrat Councillor Les Mead, he unveiled the 'Our Community' mural which had been painted by children from four local schools.
A popular attraction for children and adults was the chance to be driven in style around the roads of Mill End on the Fullers Brewery Dray. Visitors at the Fun Day were held spellbound as old traditional dances were performed by the Woodside Morris Men with their customary enthusiasm and humour and fortified by the finest ale that Fullers supply. Our picture shows the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate Christopher Townsend and his small daughter chatting afterwards to members of Woodside Morris.
During the afternoon the first outing of the Community Bus "Refresh" took place. Councillor Townsend commented, "The Liberal Democrats have been running Three Rivers District Council now for nearly 20 years and all the time have put a strong emphasis on supporting local communities. I congratulate Concillor Les Mead and his colleagues for the support they have given to the hard working committees of thriving community centres like this one in Mill End."
