Vast swathes of Green Belt land round Berkhamsted are threatened by council planners.
Lib Dem Councillor Garrick Stevens said, "This is a beautiful area on the edge of Berkhamsted - but to Dacorum planners it is just a housing site".
He continued, "It's difficult to think of anything more damaging to Berkhamsted than building on this area. It would start a domino effect all along the A41".
This is all more than 10 years away, but Garrick is urging everyone to take part fully in the coming planning consultations. "Some small increase in our town might be OK, but several hundred houses at Swing Gate Lane - or elsewhere in Berkhamsted - would be quite unacceptable! We must fight this urban sprawl."
Councillor Garrick Stevens continues, "Residents will be shocked by the huge scale of the schemes being proposed locally - over 2,000 new dwellings, mostly in the Green Belt. As well as destroying a large area of green field sites it would raise pollution levels. Tory claims to be green are just so much… hot air!."
